Navigating the Early Start of Tick Season
- Date: March 1, 2024
The beginning of this season brings an early arrival of ticks due to the mild El Niño winter, and we want to make sure your time outdoors is both enjoyable and safe.
This year's premature tick presence escalates the potential for Lyme disease, anaplasmosis, and other tick-borne infections. But no need to worry—armed with simple preventative measures, we can coexist safely with these tiny yet impactful creatures.
Here are some Tick Safety Tips from the HRLTCP Team:
Use Repellents: Apply tick repellent with DEET or picaridin, similar to sunscreen, to keep ticks away. Treating clothes with permethrin is also effective.
Dress Wisely: Wearing long sleeves and pants can protect you, and light colors help spot ticks more easily.
Stick to Paths: During outdoor activities, avoid tall grass and leafy areas by staying on trails.
Check for Ticks: Make checking for ticks a routine after being outdoors. Don’t forget to check your kids and pets too. If you find a tick, don’t panic, remove it with fine-tipped tweezers and clean the area. Quick removal is crucial.
At Hudson Regional LTC Pharmacy, we believe that a bit of preparation can help us all enjoy the beauty of our area safely. Stay alert and prepared as we venture into the outdoors this season.
